Fulton County Jail

Closing Advice

Interview with Emily and Kelly

JM: Is there anything else you would want a friend or family member to know if they have a loved one going to jail?
Emily: yes jail its not a place for women nor men but if you want to avoid from going there find you something constructive to do with your life such as taking a trade reading getting a new set of friends because you got to share and you got officers watching you all day and night its no privacy at all
Kelly: At times we were able to order products from the commissary but I had no money so I got the indigent kit which included paper and stamps to mail letters a ink pen and basic supplies. Other inmates who had cash on hand were able to order face cream, cookies, assorted candy bars, stamps, paper and a list of items. We had one day a week to place our orders and then they came a couple of hours later. The form had to be completely filled out with no mistakes. You also had to fill out paper forms to see the doctor, dentist, chaplain. Generally when you placed a request you were able to be seen by whomever you desired by the next day. In many ways the jail is run very efficiently.

JM: Is there anything else you would recommend to a future inmate?
Emily: just hold your head up it seems once we get in trouble we tend to find the man above we should have thought about God before we got ourselves in to the trouble once you out dont look back and dont go back look ahead and forward get in church if you cant make it to church let church be in you and thank him for your daylight and family
Kelly: If a friend I knew was going to jail I would tell them to try to keep their watch as you never know the time. I would tell them to be patient and try to meet someone they could enjoy spending time with. It is a rough place to be but with faith you live thru it. Any future inmate I would tell to follow all of the rules as you do not want to be locked down and to not fight with other inmates but to try to be pleasant and patient.

If you ever find yourself in the Fulton County Jail.. Just try to stay to yourself and don't go out of your way to start trouble. The more attention you attract to yourself - the worse it is going to be for you. There is always someone bigger and badder than you in that jail.
