JM: Did you have regular access to telephones? Kelly: I was able to use the phone. We could use the phone from 8:00 in
the morning until 10:30 at night. There also was a phone to call
the public defender. The cost was fifty cents and would be billed to
whom you were calling as the call was collect. If there was a lock
down, which happened sometimes, when individuals became unruly
the phones were shut off.
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? Kelly: Cost to use the phone was 50 cents billed to the person you were
calling as all calls were collect.
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out? Emily: no collect only Kelly: We did not have phone cards but the phone was collect. There was
no other way to make calls except to place collect calls.
JM: Did the jail screen your calls? Emily: yes Kelly: The phones were not monitored very well to my knowledge.
